Picasso: The Treasures He Left Behind

Rich Collection

Picasso was a rich man in his lifetime and did not have to sell his works in the art market for money. He died intestate at the ripe old age of 91 after producing volumes of work in a period spanning more than 70 years. Besides his many own paintings, he also had quite a large collection of works he received from other famous artists. He exchanged works with his contemporary famous artist Henry Matisse and thus had in his collection Matisse’s works also.

Works Paid as Tax

Picasso died intestate and the estate tax after his demise was paid to the state of France by works in his collection that included his own as well as works of other artists he had in his possession. Musee Picasso in Paris still carries these great works of art got from Picasso’s treasured collections.

In Museums

Picasso’s works of art are displayed in famous museums in Europe and America. Picasso’s many early works of his youth when he was still staying in Spain including some creations that is rarely come across are preserved in Museu Picasso in Barcelona. Works of that period demonstrate Picasso’s adoption of classical techniques before he delved in experimental art styles like cubism. The creations with exact and precise figures reflect his father’s influence on his works who was guiding him at this time. Jaime Sabartes was a close friend of Picasso from his very young days when he was still in Barcelona. Sabartes was also his personal secretary for many years. The Museu Picasso also has the rich collections of Picasso’s works that were under possession of Sabartes. Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain and to commemorate that a museum dedicated to him was built in 2003 in Malaga by his relatives.
